2015.08.05 A new style of bookstore
In recent years, it has been said that the environment surrounding bookstores has been severe due to declining book sales. However, according to Sankei Shimbun, a new style of bookstore, where they provide a comfortable environment for customers to choose books, not just selling books, is gaining popularity.

The bookstore chain, "Standard Bookstore" operates 3 stores in Osaka. Customers can read books and magazines, while enjoying light meals and coffee, even before they buy. Their slogan is, "this is a book store, but with no best-sellers". They also sell general merchandise, and all the products they sell at the stores are selected by store staff.

Culture Convenience Club (CCC), which currently operates "TSUTAYA", a nationwide chain of music & video rental services and bookstore, started its business with the name "Tsutaya Shoten (Tsutaya bookstore)" in Osaka. Recently, CCC has started a new business model with the company's old philosophy, which is “Making a suggestion for lifestyle through books, movies and music" and opened "Daikanyama Tsutaya Shoten" in Tokyo in 2011. This year, it opened another store in Osaka, called "Umeda Tsutaya Shoten". The store attracts more than 20000 visitors every day.
