2015.09.09 Increasing popularity of reading on smartphone
E-books have become widely used around the world. In the beginning, it was expected that the E-book reader is the main device to read e-books with, but it seems that it is moving in the direction differs from expectations.

US newspaper Wall Street Journal reports about how people read e-books on smart phones and the trend is increasing in the United States. For now, the device people use the most to read e-books is tablet such as iPad. According to a research firm Nielsen, 41% of all people who have bought e-books were using tablet for its main device for e-books in the first quarter of 2015.

However, one trend not to be missed is the reading on smartphone. Respondents in the Nielsen survey, the percentage of people who read e-books on smartphone has increased from 9% in 2012 to 14% in the first quarter of 2015. On the other hand, people who primarily use e-book readers such as kindle, have decreased from 50% to 32%. Percentage of people who read on tablet was 41% in Q1 2015, which is up from 30% in 2012, but down from 44% in 2014.

According to the article, one of the reasons why people read on smartphone is its convenience. People can read on smartphone anywhere, anytime even if they do not carry books, e-reader and tablet. Also, another reason people are turning to phones is the size and clarity of new smartphone models, which make reading much easier.
