2015.09.15 US publisher asking for donations to promote Barefoot Gen among US schools
Barefoot Gen is a comic book about a boy who lived through an atomic bomb explosion in Hiroshima, and survived through the chaos after World War 2. It started as a popular comic series in a weekly comic magazine in 1973 and had become a best seller. Now this comic has been translated into more than 10 languages. In the US, there is a movement to promote this comic book to US schools.

According to the Tokyo Shimbun, a publisher named Last Gasp, which has headquarters in San Francisco, California, started to ask for donations online in order to give a new look to the comic books and donate the books to schools and libraries throughout the US. This publisher acquired a copyright for the English version in 1990s. Since then, they have published the comic books in the form of paperbacks, but now they are planning to make hard covers.

Their goal is to raise 36000 dollars by September 10th. If they can reach the goal, they will print 1000 copies for each of Volume 1 to 4, and send them to schools. According to the article, the project manager says they want to pass the spirit of peace to future generations.
