2015.09.29 Joint Venture by Major Japanese publishers, trying to publicize Manga and Anime abroad
As the popularity of Japanese Anime and Manga is growing, 4 major Japanese publishers and Animate, a company selling anime-related products, have gathered to establish a joint venture. It aims to publicize Japanese manga and anime abroad, and also promote measures against piracies.

The new joint venture, “Japan Manga Alliance” was established by Kodansha, Kadokawa, Shueisha, Shogakukan, and Animate. They will set up a local subsidiary in Bangkok, Thailand this fall. By next spring, it is also planning to open a retail store that sells mangas, novels and character goods that are produced by those publishers. Depending on how well it goes in Thailand, they will expand into other countries.

According to an article by Nihon Keizai Shimbun, it has been said that pirated copies are widely available, twice as many illegal copies compare to legal copies are for sale in Thailand. Those 5 companies also tackle this issue of piracy. The representative from the new company is saying, “It will make a place where people can pick up the real products and touch the authenticity”.
