2019.04.30 A Fashion-themed Hackathon, organized by magazine publishers
4 magazine publishers organized a Fashion-themed Hackathon Event called "The Fashion Hack Tokyo", which took place on August 29th and August 30th, aiming to create new ways of enjoying magazines.

Hackathon is an event where people work together and develop a software or a service within a certain amount of time. The sponsors were 4 publishers including Hearst Fujin Gaho, Kodansha, Shueisha and Shogakukan. Participants have developed the new services in order to enjoy fashion, by coupling magazine content from 28 magazines issued by those 4 publishers with the latest technology. During the registration period before August 17, more than 600 people had already sent in an application, even though the capacity was limited to just 50 people.

The winning team made an app that can search and find fashion models whose facial features are similar to users; figuring out that by taking a picture of the user themselves, and then gives users recommendations on makeup and outfits based on the models' makeup and outfits.

Nowadays, magazine content is not just consumed on paper, but many kinds of services are available using PCs and Smartphones. There is a trend that every industry is trying to innovate something new by using technology. Even in the publishing industry, we will witness a variety of new exciting services using the latest technology in the near future.
