2017.04.27 Japanese added to Skype Translator
Microsoft has announced the addition of Japanese to its translation services starting from April 7, 2017. This support extends to Skype Translator, and enables Skype users who do not speak Japanese themselves to convert their conversation into Japanese in real time. Japanese is the tenth language to be supported. The nine others are English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, and Russian.

Skype Translator can be switched on by clicking the Skype Translator button in the Skype app. When you start chatting, your spoken words are converted into the language you have chosen (your original voice is heard by the other party in low volume). The feature can be used by people with a hearing impairment, as the conversation will also be shown as subtitles on the screen.

Microsoft’s translation service has an advantage over its competitors such as Google Translate by providing real-time translation of speech. Now with Japanese added to its service, it offers a great chance to expand business in this field.
