2018.05.01 Service that Lets You Listen to a Book’s Summary in 15 Minutes
Flier Inc., a company operating "flier," a website which provides summaries of business texts and educational texts, announced that from May 2018 it will also start offering audio summary services in addition to its text-based services. Yasushi Ohga of Flier Inc. stated as such during the second AI EXPO held from April 4 to 6, 2018, in Tokyo.

A collection of more than 1300 books, compiled into summaries which can be read in 10 minutes, is offered by flier through its membership-based web and app services. Subject-matter experts from varying fields are charged with selecting “must-read books” and summarizing their content.  According to an April 6 ITMedia article, Ohga said, “People are increasingly expecting audio now,” and talked about his plan to offer audio as a new feature of the summary service, without added charges to users.

For the audio feature, which is currently under development, flier adopted AI, Inc.’s synthetic voice engine, “AITalk.” Of flier's currently available text summaries, the audio for 1100 books have now been completed. First, flier plans on delivering the content through its web services, then it will make it available through its app platform. Furthemore, it plans to offer the service through smart speakers such as Google Home in the future.

Ohga commented, “Many people commute by car in the suburbs. You can’t read a book while driving, but you can easily listen.” He also discussed his aim to increase flier’s membership numbers to more than a million from its current 170,000. For those who don't want to waste time even while driving, this new service will be a great opportunity to efficiently gain information on books.
