2019.04.30 BookExpo America Held at the End of May
BookExpo America (BEA), the largest trade fair of the publishing industry of North America, which is held once a year, will take place between May 30 to June 1, 2018. It has been hosted on the West Coast in the past, however, this year, Javits Center in New York will be the venue for the event.

Four new initiatives will be the focus at the upcoming BEA. First, all eyes will be on the essential items that will boost revenues for the retail book stores—non-book related products, discounted books, toys and a special corner concerning cafés. For example, samples of new products and demonstrations highlighting their sales strategies will be given. Next on the item will be the introduction of experiential book store models. Visitors will be able to experience actual book stores that are showing strong performances in the United States, such as book stores with attached cafés or storefronts with sleek designs. The third is the “Editors’ Hours” where booksellers can chat with editors. These retailers would be able to gain useful information—production background on books, etc.—to be able to better promote the products at their storefronts. Lastly, brief sessions for publicists to meet booksellers will be programed. They would be able to directly negotiate author events which play a substantial role in books sales.

At BEA, in addition to the exhibitors comprising of major U.S. publication firms, their overseas counterparts as well as libraries and museums will be among the participants with showcase booths. Kinokuniya Company Ltd. (Sydney branch) will be one of the companies taking part in the event. Beginning with best-selling authors, the up-and-coming writers will be present too and book-signing event will be scheduled. Formerly, it was an event that only allowed industry affiliates, but in response to the diversification of information dissemination in recent years, BEA opened its doors to well-known bloggers as well as representatives from book clubs too.  It has become a platform where an array of publication houses from varying genre could meet in one place. Furthermore, on top of the sale and purchase of publishing rights, the venue provides opportunities for participants to learn new business strategies as well as deepen the exchange between industry peers.
