2018.10.23 Untranslated work of winner of the novel translation book prize is finally published
The Japanese translated version of Toon Tellegen's "The Hedgehog's Wishes" (Nagayama Saku Shinpaisha 2016) was published on 25th September.
Tellegen is a Dutch writer born in 1941. Mr. Tellegen, who is also a doctor, published numerous children's literature after publishing "for a day" written his young daughter in 1984, and for this contribution was shortlisted for the Hans Christian International Award. This work is the completed works of a 1995 edition in which 8 editions based on the theme of a party, named "De verjaardag van de eekhoorn en andere dieren", meaning the squirrel's birthday and other animals.

Actually at the time Holland resident translator Saki Nagayama translated "The Hedgehog's Wishes" into Japanese it had not yet been translated into English. However as Nagayama expectations that the work would resonate with Japanese people, it became a bestseller in Japan and is also expected to published in both Taiwan and Korea. At the award ceremony of the prize. Nagayama commented that she thought the expansion of overseas literature into Japan was wonderful.

"Risu's Birthday" is a work that conveys the somewhat cowardly creativity of a protagonist framed in the context of their birthday party. An illustration drawn by Mr. Ueda Makoto Ueida, an illustrator who has won the Japan Picture Book Award, is also included on most pages. The target age group for the book is from the elementary school junior year, but it is a collection of short stories that can resonate with anyone, irrespective of age.
