2018.12.06 Guadalajara International Book Fair
The 32nd Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL) takes place from November 24th through December 2nd. It is the world's second largest book fair, next to Frankfurt, and is the largest Spanish language book fair. More than 810,000 people visited last year, with over 2,000 publishers representing. This year, more than 400,000 titles from 47 countries will be exhibited this year. There will be Japanese representatives at the venue as well, buying and selling foreign rights. From 26th to 28th it will be open only to the professionals, but other dates will be open to pubic.

Portugal, as this year's guest of honor, will be represented by 40 authors. At the pavillion there will be interviews with and book presentations by them. There will also be various events, featuring visual arts, theatrical, films, dances and music every day during the fair to introduce the art and culture of the country.

Furthermore, more than 800 authors and creators from different genres will participate. Nobel Prize winners Orhan Pamuk, George F. Smoot, and Mario Molina, among others, will hold conferences.

Children's will have plenty of activities and workshops. The kids' area, which expects to have over 100,000 little visitors, will discover the joy of reading through 37 different workshops, such as crafts, acting and singing. Separate reading rooms are available for anyone to sit down in between events or for short breaks.

This year's fair will also have a special area that features a display of books on foods, as well as workshops to learn the history of food. Moreover, a conference on the relationship between gastronomy and science will be planned. There, you will learn things like kitchen science of chocolates or hot peppers.
