2019.06.09 Oscar Wilde’s Favorite Hotel Reopens
The Cadogan Hotel, a luxury swiss replica watches hotel in London is more than 120 years old and is rich in history. It had been renovated for four years since 2014 years, but finally reopened in December 2018 as The Belmont Cadogan Hotel. One of the most famous figures associated with the Cadogan is Oscar Wilde, who, back in 1895, was arrested in Room 118. There’s even a poem — entitled “The Arrest of Oscar Wilde at the Cadogan Hotel” — chronicling the whole ordeal. The room is still available for guests to stay.

Wilde, a well-known author in the 19th-century Victorian era, who penned masterpieces that includes “The Happy Prince,” “The Picture of Dorian Gray” and “Salome.” Many of his works are translated in other languages including Japanese, and greatly influenced famous fake omega watches Japanese writers such as Soseki Natsume and Junichiro Tanizaki. Wilde had been engaged in an affair with the son of Marquess of Queensberry since 1891, but when the outraged marquess denounced him as a homosexual, Wilde sued the man for libel. However, he lost his case when evidence strongly supported the marquess’s observations. Homosexuality was classified as a crime in England at the time, and Wilde was arrested, found guilty, and sentenced to two years of hard labor.

Times have changed in a lot of countries for the LGBT populations. Still, there are many places where homosexuality is a crime, often punished by torture and death. The Belmont Cadogan’s history with Wilde reminds us of different times. It also contains beautiful architectural features that welcome visitors. Recommended for the Wilde fans.
